Before being named head of biostatistics, Mr. Li was the director of biostatistics at his pharmaceutical company from 2018 to 2020, where he played a pivotal role in strategic planning and execution of biostatistical analysis. Before joining Sumitomo Pharma Oncology, he contributed significantly to Novartis as an associate director from 2014 to 2018 and as a senior principal biostatistician in Novartis Oncology between 2011 and 2014. Mr. Li's tenure at Novartis was marked by the development of diagnostic devices that have tremendously impacted patient care.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Li garnered success as a senior biostatistician at the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research Incorporation (MDx) from 2010 to 2011 and as a senior statistician at Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) Diagnostics between 2008 and 2010. His work at BD included projects on molecular diagnostics and bio-nutritional product development, leading to the successful market launch of a diagnostics device. Mr. Li began his professional journey as a lead statistical consultant at Virginia Tech from 2006 to 2008. He also gained experience as an instructor at Bowling Green State University from 2003 to 2005.
Mr. Li's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in statistics from East China Normal University in 1997, a Master of Arts in econometrics and quantitative economics from Xiamen University in 2002, a Master of Arts in mathematics and statistics from Bowling Green State University in 2005, and a Doctor of Philosophy in statistics from Virginia Tech in 2008.
Throughout his career, Mr. Li has been an active member of industry-related organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Statistical Association. These affiliations have provided him with platforms for continuous learning and contribution to biostatistics.
Mr. Li's contributions have been recognized with several awards, including a Passion, Quality, and Speed Award from Novartis Oncology Global Development in 2013, an Excellent Service Award from Novartis Molecular Diagnostics (Companion Diagnostics) in 2011, and a Special Achievement Award from BD Advance Bioscience in 2009. He attributes his success to his natural curiosity and dedication to self-improvement, which has driven him to consistently seek ways to enhance processes, products, and services.
