Round the World 2009Round the World 2009

BISHOPS FROME, ENGLAND, May 15, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On 4th June the first of two Round the World Motorcycle Expeditions will leave the UK bound for New York. The Round the World Expedition will start at the Ace Cafe in London and finish in New York at the end of September. Supported by Kudu Expeditions, the tour is the first of its kind ever to be undertaken and certainly the most ambitious motorcycle expedition ever organised.

After crossing Europe the route takes the riders along the fabled Silk Route through Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. It then continues through Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, South Korea and North America, ending in New York in the autumn.

Most participants have never before embarked upon anything as adventurous as this and many have given up secure jobs in order to join the expedition. There will be more than 3000 miles of tough and very remote tracks through the Mongolian and Siberian wilderness where riders will be camping out, fully self-sufficient for days. To help prepare, all riders will be undertaking specialist rider training in Wales. In addition they will go through training in motorcycle repair and first-aid at the Kudu Expeditions' premises in Worcestershire, England, to help get them ready for the many challenges to come.

Rider Profiles

The riders have widely varying personal backgrounds and levels of riding experience. Many have never ridden off-road before, and will undoubtedly find the tougher sections of the route an extreme challenge. The combination of foreign countries, border crossings, wild camps and challenging roads will undoubtedly be a life-changing experience for all. Several participants are using their journey to raise money for very worthwhile charities. Many have given up secure jobs to take part, and in such a time of economic uncertainty that is a very brave commitment in order to undertake a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Support Crews

The tour will be supported by our own crews of mechanics, guides and first-aide trained staff, all highly experienced members of the Kudu Expeditions team. They will be split between 2 groups of 13 riders, each travelling independently a week apart and each with their own dedicated support vehicles.

Key dates

Off road training - 18/19 May and 25/26 May
Expedition First Aid and Mechanics - 23/24 May and 30/31 May
Expedition departure - 4th June Expedition 1 (13 riders) and 11th June Expedition 2 (13 riders)
Expedition completion - 24th September Expedition 1 and 1st October Expedition 2.
