PHOENIX, AZ, February 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Personal injury attorney Jerrold A. Mayro recently obtained a $600,000 settlement for a wrongful death / truck accident where the police initially told the victim's parents that "it was just one of those things".

The accident occurred near Camp Verde, about an hour and a half north of Phoenix, when the driver of the vehicle ran over a dead elk that was lying on the road and flipped over. The victim, a promising college student, exited from the vehicle only to be hit by the truck driver and killed instantly.

Although the police report found that the truck driver was not at fault, Mr. Mayro hired an accident reconstruction expert right away. In addition, he was able to determine that this particular trucking company had a record of inadequate driver performance and a history of pushing the regulatory limits imposed on truck drivers just to increase profits. By using the information provided by the expert as well as the information he was able to obtain about the trucking company's record, Mr. Mayro was able to quickly secure a substantial settlement from the insurance company.

"This was a horrific case that didn't need to happen," Mr. Mayro said in a statement. "Our accident reconstruction team was able to demonstrate that the truck driver had about five to six seconds to see the victim before hitting him, yet did not even apply his brakes. "

Mr. Mayro added: "Unique facts and legal circumstances, not necessarily present in similar cases, led to this positive outcome. Yet, because of the damage that can be caused by 18 wheelers, trucking companies have a responsibility to better train their drivers and when they don't, they should be liable to their victims."

The Mayro Law Firm in Phoenix, Arizona focuses primarily on personal injury cases including truck accidents and wrongful death claims. Jerrold A. Mayro has practiced personal injury law for nearly 30 years and is dedicated to obtaining justice and compensation for his clients.
