asks, "What is the best way to promote solar energy?" This energy efficiency company has spent years trying to influence people to convert over to solar power. However, most people do not realize the benefits that it holds. Citizens are unwilling to transition to less conventional methods of producing power. Hopefully, a new action in Washington D.C. will show people the value behind solar energy.
For the past several years, environmentalists have teamed up with solar energy advocates to urge the American government to utilize solar energy. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed in the White House. Unfortunately, President Ronald Reagan had them removed in 1986. Recently, current President Barack Obama has announced that he will reintroduce solar power to the First Family's home. After 25 years, the White House will house solar power modules once again.
posted by Mercury News expresses how the initial idea for this movement was proposed back in early 2010. The Secretary of Energy at the time announced that solar panels on the White House would start generating power by the end of spring 2011. However, activists watched the deadline come and go with no change to the government's energy effort. President Obama is now following through with the previous commitment and spearheading the energy movement.
Currently, solar energy is harnessed and used to power over 1.3 million homes across the United States. In Northern California alone there are over 90,000 consumers utilizing energy-efficient solar solutions. But environmentalists and solar advocates are seeking to raise these numbers exponentially within the next few years.
The White House is retrofitting its entire structure with more energy-saving utilities. Besides solar panels, officials are planning to install variable speed fans and updated building controls. All of these upgrades are expected to span over the next several years. Activists are hoping that the First Family's efforts will encourage more Americans to take action and start solar-powering their homes.
There has been much debate as to which solar company is going to supply the panels to the capitol. Two major contenders in the rooftop solar panel production industry are SunPower and FirstSolar. However, neither of these two manufacturers have stated that they are acting as the providers. Although SunPower and FirstSolar specialize in overseas panel production, they still create solutions used onshore.
AC Solar Solutions notes how there are more than 8,500 megawatts of solar power capacity installed within the United States. As of now, there are 30 large-scale solar power plants that are under construction hoping to further promote energy-efficient methods.
"The people of America need a role model, and that's what the President is providing for them. With his efforts, maybe more people will be motivated to start utilizing solar power," commented an AC Solar Solutions representative.
