/24-7PressRelease/ -- Actress Chyna Layne lands a highly coveted spot in ABC's Talent Showcase set to take place on Monday, October 6, 2008 in New York City's Acorn Theatre located at 410 West 42nd Street. Thousands were submitted, 600 auditioned but only an elite group of 13 promising actors selected will have the opportunity to showcase their talent to a host of invited-only network executives and industry professionals including casting directors, managers, talent agents, and producers. As the Executive Vice President of Casting, Keli Lee says- "We are proud to present an incredibly talented and diverse group of actors in our seventh New York show. Providing opportunities to diverse actors is a priority to ABC." ABOUT CHYNA LAYNE
Among her directors, Chyna Layne is known as the glam girl who physically morphs for each role she embodies and is surely making her mark as a powerhouse actress. In 2009, Chyna Layne lights up the big screen in the much-anticipated theatrical release, PUSH, based on the bestselling novel by Sapphire and directed by the critically acclaimed Lee Daniels. Set in the 1980s, Chyna portrays Rhonda, a young immigrant from Kingston, Jamaica enrolled in the pre-GED program at Each One Teach One Alternative school. Here, Rhonda battles illiteracy and overcomes a painful past, surviving incest. Chyna gives a heartwrenching performance as Deyah Kingston, a young and pregnant Jamaican woman who is HIV-positive in HBO's LIFE SUPPORT directed by Nelson George. Based on a true story, Chyna portrays Juanita, the jealous girlfriend who killed legendary harmonica player, Pot Strong in the upcoming Sony release, CADILLAC RECORDS, written and directed by Darnell Martin.
Raised in the gritty streets of East New York, Brooklyn, her talent for portraying unique and human characters rarely seen on television and in film along with her stunning beauty makes this round-the-way girl the one to watch. The critically acclaimed faith-based film, A DEEPER LOVE, is the first project produced under her company, Lawrence Layne Productions. The Source describes her star performance as "stunning" and the film itself "a true masterpiece." The spiritual drama is the winner for Best Religious Film in the 2008 San Diego Black Film Festival and has screened in over seven film festivals in202008 including the American Black Film Festival, Martha's Vineyard African-American Film Festival and San Francisco Black Film Festival. Already creating quite a buzz is the 2009 indie, ALL SCREWED UP. Chyna is Teenisha Flowers, the teen geek who switches bodies with the popular high school jock through the bite of a Namibian Elephant beetle.
Chyna Layne is being branded as the face of the hilarious commercials for Dr. Miracle hair products, starring in four spots currently airing exclusively on BET and TVOne. Chyna gives another strong comedic performance in the Dunkin Donuts spot with Jermaine Dupri, directed by Zach Braff.
