Adaljiza Sosa-Riddell, Ph.D. Named to Exclusive Membership Organization

Dr. Adaljiza Sosa-Riddell was the first woman to receive the Scholar of the Year Award from the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies



    GLENDALE, CA, August 31, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Adaljiza Sosa-Riddell, Retired Senior Lecturer and Director of Chicano Studies at the University of California at Davis, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.

With 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Sosa-Riddell attributes her success to the support she receives from her family. Her responsibilities at the University of California at Davis included budgeting, developing Ethnic and Chicano courses, developing the undergraduate curriculum, conducting oral examinations for Ph.D. candidates in various disciplines, and reviewing students' dissertations. She also taught political science and Latin American studies courses to undergraduate students.

Dr. Sosa-Riddell also has early experience working as a farm worker, waitress, secretary, library assistant, juvenile detention center counselor and high school social studies teacher. She also taught geography, United States history, English, and Spanish. In 1974, she earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California at Riverside. She earned a Master's Degree in Political Science in 1964 and her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in 1960, from the University of California at Berkeley.

The founder of the Mujeres Activas En Letras Y Cambio Social (MALCS), Dr. Sosa-Riddell is a member of the Women's Caucus of the American Political Science Association, and the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies, where she received the Scholar of the Year Award in 1985. She received the Advisor of the Year Award, College of Letters and Science from the University of California at Davis, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latino Network of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she received the Woman of the Year Award in 2000 from the National Women's Political Caucus, and was a nominee for the Notable Hispanic American Woman Award in 1985. Most recently she has received several awards from community organizations for her work with the latino community in Sacramento.
