/24-7PressRelease/ - Houston, TX, July 11, 2008 - Alden-Houston's award-winning restaurant, *17 announced today a recent addition to its food and beverage team: Evan Turner as sommelier. Turner joins executive chef Wes Morton in what promises to be a perfect pairing of food and beverage for the ultimate dining experience. Turner will work directly with food and beverage operations manager Ludovic Poirier to supervise the hotel's extensive wine and beverage offerings.
"We are very fortunate to have Evan as part of our *17 team," said Susan Ward-Freeman, Alden-Houston's general manager. "Not only is he an extremely talented sommelier, but a real showman. Sometimes wine can be an intimidating experience, yet Evan's approachable style allows diners to comfortably engage in wine conversation at any level."
Like Morton, Turner is a strong advocate in supporting local farmers and has created an innovative summer cocktail menu inspired by Houston's farmers market for the hotel's lounge, a+. The Blackberry Caprioska, prepared with vodka and fresh blackberries and lime juice, has been a best-seller. "It's refreshing, light and the perfect antidote for Houston' hot summer nights," said Turner.
Prior to joining *17 and a+ at Alden-Houston, Turner served as wine director for New York City's Palladin Restaurant and, more recently, at the Strip House in downtown Houston, The Tasting Room at River Oaks and Bank by Jean-George. He is a certified sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers.
Of his new position at Alden-Houston, Turner says "It's a joyful challenge to work here. I know something special is happening at *17 and I am thrilled to be a part of it."
