/24-7PressRelease/ - HOUSTON, TX, February 02, 2008 - Alden-Houston's award-winning restaurant, *17 announced today that Chef Wesley Morton, whose culinary background includes experience at leading fine-dining restaurants in Northern California and Washington, DC, will now serve as executive chef. Award-winning Pastry Chef Jami Kling was named Executive Pastry Chef for the restaurant, located at 1117 Prairie, in the heart of downtown Houston.
"We are extremely excited to have two very creative, highly-acclaimed chefs on board with us at *17," said Susan Ward-Freeman, Alden-Houston's, general manager. "We are quite impressed with both individuals and look forward to transitioning into our new menus soon to show Houstonians, as well as our guests from around the world, just how talented these chefs are."
Morton comes to *17 by way of Half Moon Bay, CA, where he served as executive sous chef for NAVIO Restaurant at the Ritz Carlton, a Mobil AAA Five Diamond restaurant. Prior to that, he worked at a handful of Washington, DC's most prestigious restaurants, including Circle Bistro, Cityzen and Citronelle, the latter two each Mobil Four Diamond restaurants. He is a native of Abbeville, LA and a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute.
Kling most recently served as Executive Pastry Chef at Bistro Moderne, located here. Before that, she served as pastry chef at the Boca Raton Resort and Club for their Italian restaurant, Lucca, as well as Caf Boulud Palm Beach, one of the many highly praised restaurants directed by esteemed chef, Daniel Boulud. Kling was born and raised in La Porte, TX and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in baking and pastry from Miami's Johnson and Wales University.
Now, *17 is the new home for both promising and rising star chefs. "*17's menu has long been known for its enticing New American cuisine, created from seasonal, high-quality ingredients and locally sourced whenever possible," said Ward Freeman. "Both Wes and Jami are very strong advocates of this cooking philosophy as well and will be relying heavily on Houston's local farmer's markets for their menu inspiration."
