IRVINE, CA, October 09, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Alzheimer's Association is encouraging residents throughout Orange County to help create a world without Alzheimer's by participating in the upcoming Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. With three dates and three locations, there's a time and place for everyone to raise awareness and funds in support of caregiver services and research programs. ---
In October and November, Walks will be held in Tustin, Huntington Beach and Anaheim. Interested individuals can form a team, join another team, or walk as an individual, uniting in an effort to reclaim the future for millions. Alzheimer's disease is Orange County's fourth-leading cause of death, with more than 83,000 affected. With no cure yet developed, this number is expected to increase nearly 50% by the year 2025 as the Baby Boomer generation ages.
The Walks to End Alzheimer's will be held at the following locations:
• The District at Tustin Legacy: Saturday, Oct. 26
• Huntington Beach: Saturday, Nov. 2
• Angel Stadium of Anaheim: Saturday, Nov. 16
For each Walk, registration and expo open at 7:30 a.m., the opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.
"There has never been a greater need to join in the fight against Alzheimer's by participating in our Walks," said Jim McAleer, president & CEO of Alzheimer's Association, Orange County. "Funds raised will provide care and support services to the 83,000 residents of Orange County living with Alzheimer's disease while also contributing to advancing critically needed research."
"When you participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's, you send a loud-and-clear message that this disease has reached epidemic proportions and we all need to step forward to raise awareness, raise money and raise hope," McAleer added.
Participants will do far more than walk. They will learn more about the disease, find out about advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services for families and caregivers such as the 24/7 helpline, 800-272-3900, support groups, training sessions, etc. Each Walk includes a meaningful ceremony to pay tribute to those affected by the disease.
In addition to the Walk and tribute ceremony, participants will enjoy live music, a Doggie Dugout with complimentary doggie bandanas, a Kidz Zone, and an opportunity to show team spirit and honor their loved ones by entering the Make-Your-Own Team Sign Contest. Walkers who raise a minimum $100 donation by Walk day will receive a purple 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer's shirt. Other prizes are available for $300+ donations.
