ELMER, NJ March 05, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Great women are celebrated throughout the month of March as part of Women's History Month, and Appel Farm is pleased to present a quartet of women who are making musical history. The popular trio of Abbie Gardner, Laurie MacAllister and Carolann Solebello, known as Red Molly, will be joined by special guest Antje Duvekot on Saturday, March 28 at 8:00 PM on the stage at Appel Farm. A special campfire, complete with hot chocolate, will be held at 6:00 PM prior to the concert (weather permitting), and patrons are invited to celebrate great women with a song, story or poem and to bring their own musical instrument. The campfire is free to ticketholders.
Born around a campfire in 2004, Red Molly is the collaboration of three solo artists who discovered their unique sound while improvising at a folk festival. Gardner, MacAllister and Solebello realized the chemistry between the three was working, and audiences responded to their crisp harmonies, excellent musicianship on string instruments, and warm, engaging presence. All three have released their own solo albums prior to being part of Red Molly. Their music spans selections from Americana roots, gospel and jazz influences. In 2006 Red Molly released a live CD, Never Been to Vegas, that quickly claimed many honors, including placing in the top 30 for the Radio and Records Americana chart and top 10 CDs for listeners in Boston. Love and Other Tragedies (2008) is the group's first studio album.
Antje Duvekot is one of the brightest singer-songwriters to rise out of Boston's competitive acoustic music scene. She began writing songs and performing while still in her teens, and won several awards including the grand prize in the John Lennon songwriting contest for her song "Soma", and taking top honors as Best New Folk Singer in the Kerrville New Folk Competition. Her light and shimmering soprano is showcased by lyrics and music that are powerfully emotional. She is releasing her second studio album, The Near Demise of the High Wire Dancer, in March, 2009.
