-- Battistella's will be the newest addition to Downtown Raleigh's growing restaurant scene, opening in the space formerly occupied by Angelo's in City Market at the corner of Blount and Martin. The restaurant will feature traditional, authentic New Orleans and Southern fare as well as a full bar. Eddie Coleman, CCIM and Lucas Kinnin represented Battistella's in their site selection, purchase and lease negotiation efforts. Chef Brian Battistella's previous experience includes working the kitchen of the famous New Orleans institution, Commander's Palace among a number of other high profile New Orleans restaurants. Battistella's family has a long tradition in New Orleans, having run the oldest fish market in the city, Battistella's Fish Market. Like so many others, Brian was displaced after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, eventually settling in Raleigh. "I've come to love Raleigh as my home and I'm very excited to be able to share the wonderful French, Italian and other multicultural food experiences of New Orleans with our friends here."
Battistella's previously used the Crabtree Inn's restaurant facility as a catering and test kitchen for the restaurant until their real estate advisers, Coleman & Associates, could identify and acquire the right location to properly launch the concept. The new location is on the premier corner of City Market, and is expected to have sidewalk seating on both Blount and Martin Streets. Martin Street is enjoying a boost in dining and entertainment options including Coleman client Jake Wolf at Capital Club 16, as well as Kings, Neptunes, new evening hours and the opening of the bar at Mecca and Ashley Christensen's three new establishments that are currently under construction a block away on the corner of Wilmington and Martin Streets.
Battistella's has begun transforming the space into their new restaurant, which is scheduled to open in late spring. Diners will be treated to Southern and New Orleans fare such as Chef Brian's crawfish etouffee as well as his amazing take on shrimp and grits, which both feature his famous "Holy Trinity" sauce.
