LOS ANGELES, CA, December 06, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elliott Broidy and the production team of 'Sugar' brought the much lauded film to the nation's Capitol. The November 14th premiere in Washington D.C. is the result of innovative grass roots efforts to shed light on sharp increases of youth homelessness across the country.

'Sugar' is set in Venice Beach, Calif. and depicts the struggles of a young woman forced into homelessness after her family is killed in a car accident. The film also brings attention to a growing disconnect between social services and homeless youth, who comprise the fastest growing segment of homeless populations.

Director Rotimi Rainwater lived on the streets of Orlando for nearly a year after serving in the U.S. Navy. 'Sugar' is based off the struggles he faced during that period.

Despite a limited budget, 'Sugar' earned a Congressional Screening in June. The event was also indicative of the growing role that youth homelessness may play in future policymaking.

Earning the attention of Congress was attributed to resourceful marketing that maximized the independent film's powerful story. These efforts included social media marketing and a campaign to feed homeless youth on crowd funding platform Indiegogo.

Rotimi Rainwater also cited the clout of Film Financier Elliott Broidy as invaluable to opening doors that may have otherwise not been possible.

'Sugar' parlayed momentum from the Congressional Screening in June to score a 'Film Heals Award' at the Manhattan Film Festival in July and earn a coveted screening at Homelessness Action Week in Vancouver during October.

The social significance of America's future generation grappling with street life has also sent an unsettling message and increased awareness of youth homelessness. In commenting on the screening before Congress in June, Elliott Broidy noted 'Sugar' is a humanitarian effort that deserves to succeed.
