SAN DIEGO, CA, January 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/
-- Bari Berkman, Vice President of Real Estate, Assistant General Counsel of Leidos, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in real estate law.
Ms. Berkman has more than 30 years of professional experience, with two years as a Vice President of Real Estate and Assistant General Counsel of Leidos, formerly known as Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Over the years, she has established herself as an expert in international real estate, as well as mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and closing properties. On a daily basis, she is responsible for overseeing leases and real estate, managing legal work, and closing sales.
As part of her duties, Ms. Berkman provides real estate legal support to the merger & acquisitions department for all acquisitions and divestitures (domestic and international) for SAIC and its subsidiaries. She also prepares real estate due diligence reports, matrices, assignments and subleases. In addition, Ms. Berkman is responsible for negotiation and legal documentation of all international leases, purchases, acquisitions, bids, due diligence, and facilities analysis of international leases for SAIC, its subsidiaries, and majority-owned JV partners. Her experience includes negotiating the real estate deal and drafting leases in more than 30 foreign countries and in handling large, complex negotiations and leases. Through Leidos, she has established a worldwide network of attorneys, brokers, and construction companies to provide immediate information on real estate and legal practices. She is willing to travel nationally and internationally for her clients.
When Ms. Berkman moved from the corporate real estate department to the legal department, she received the title of Assistant General Counsel. Previously, she had been a Vice President of Real Estate and Director of International Real Estate.
Looking back, Ms. Berkman attributes her success to hard work, the company culture, and her negotiating abilities. She became involved in her profession right after law school. While performing litigation work, which she did not enjoy, she saw a help wanted advertisement in the newspaper and ended up getting the job.
Ms. Berkman received a J.D. from California Western School of Law and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Florida, where she graduated cum laude. In addition, she studied art history in Florence, Italy, and attended two programs on negotiation at Harvard Law School. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with the San Diego County Bar Association, The State Bar of California, The Florida Bar, LEAD San Diego, Leadership California, Women's Network, SAIC, ABA, and the American Corporate Counsel Association. To give back to others, she serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer's Association of San Diego and Imperial County. In January 2014, Ms. Berkman will leave Leidos, ending her 32-year employment with the company. She plans to keep an open mind toward her professional future, and she will seek out a company that can benefit from her decades of experience.
