Founder Jo-Anne Tyson was inspired by her son's positive attitude towards his life-threatening peanut and
tree nut allergy, and also by a friend's story of her challenges with
Celiac disease. It is from this inspiration that Tyson dreamed up Bee Nut Free, which provides tasty, nutritious and safe snacks to allergy sensitive individuals. She enlisted her son's help in designing the bee in the company's logo, while her friend designed its columbine.
"I, like many others, became frustrated with the lack of variety of snack foods available for children with food sensitivities," said Jo-Anne. "We take great pride in our products - we require allergy information from each of our suppliers while also routinely testing raw ingredients and finished products for allergens."
More than 17 million Americans suffer from
food allergies. It is only through strict avoidance of food allergens, early recognition, and management of allergic reactions that serious health consequences can be prevented. Eight food categories account for 90% of all allergic reactions related to food - milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and shellfish. Bee Nut Free's snacks is free of seven of these, and the company is actively working on finding a way to produce goods without risk of cross contamination with soy.
In the spirit of providing wholesome nutritious snacks, the company also keeps its products free of high-fructose corn syrup, trans fats, and artificial colors and flavorings.
