Bianca B. Ruzicka strives to bridge communication and science

SAN MATEO, CA, August 5, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bianca B. Ruzicka, Ph.D., Managing Director of Helix Medical Communications, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of medical communications.

With 12 years of experience in her field, Dr. Ruzicka specializes in medical communications strategy and implementation. As the Managing Director of Helix Medical Communications, she is responsible for overseeing all operations including the scientific services group with medical writers, directors, editors and information specialists, supervising the client services group responsible for the financial and administrative side of client accounts, handling local financial operations in general, developing new business initiatives, and advising and consulting for clients regarding communication strategies. Her career began at Bayer Pharmaceuticals, where she was the Assistant Director of Scientific Communications and utilized her training as a research scientist to pursue a less traditional career in clinical communications. In 2002, she joined Helix Medical Communications as the Vice President of Scientific Services before working her way up to her current position. She attributes her success to her strong interest in science and its communication, high degree of motivation to succeed, dedication and enthusiasm for what she does.

Dr. Ruzicka received the Watson Memorial and Ontario Graduate Scholarships in 1983 and the James H. Rattray Memorial Scholarship from Queen's University in 1985. She received postdoctoral fellowships from the Medical Research Council of Canada from 1994 through 1996. A graduate of Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, she receved her Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1990 and her Bachelor of Science in Life Science (with Honors) in 1986. A member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals, she was given Special Recognition by the Pharmaceutical Division at Bayer AG in 1997, was honored with the Dean's Award from Queen's University in 1984 and received the Natural Sciences and Engineering Summer Research Award in 1984 and again in 1985. Dr. Ruzicka hopes to continue her leadership role in medical communications and address issues on good publication practices in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
