WASHINGTON, DC, October 13, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Benjamin Carson of Maryland finished second to Senator Ted Cruz of Texas in the Values Voters Summit Straw Poll of conservative activists in Washington, D.C. today.
Carson bested Senator Rick Santorum, the 2012 runner up for the GOP presidential nomination, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, the 2008 runner up for the GOP presidential nomination, and the rest of GOP field for 2016.
National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee Chairman John Philip Sousa IV said "I am absolutely delighted but not surprised by the huge showing of support for Dr Carson in the Values Voters Summit straw poll. Sousa who spoke with Dr. Carson shortly after his well received speech at the conference Monday continued with, "It is clear that his message of common sense, a limited constitutional government, and traditional moral values is resonating with the American people."
The Carson Draft Committee has received over 200,000 petitions from Americans clamoring for Dr. Carson to run for President and its Facebook page has 55,000 likes and adds about 1,000 supporters a day.
The Committee's fundraising effort has raised over $375,000 from nearly 10,000 donors via e-mail and traditional mail solicitations in about 40 days and is on track to raise more than $1 million by December 31, 2013.
