ROCHESTER, MI, September 08, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Grab your lederhosen and bring the family. Rochester Mills Annual Oktoberfest, set for Sept. 22-24, 2011, this year will offer additional entertainment and for the first time ever the seasonal celebration lager will be available at other select bars and restaurants in the Metro Detroit Area. Now in its 13th year, Rochester Mills Oktoberfest brings the time-honored Alps tradition to Rochester with a weekend full of parties, local craft beer, authentic German cuisine and plenty of opportunities to celebrate the season with friends and family.

The weekend kicks off Thursday, Sept. 22 with a free "Rocktoberfest" concert in the tent from 6-10pm with performances by local teens attending the School of Rock and JC Drums Music School as well as a skateboard "Game of Skate" session and demo hosted by South Street Skate Park highlighting the pre-fest activities. A Ceremonial tapping of Rochester Mills Oktoberfest Seasonal Celebration Lager will take place inside the brewery at 7pm with special guests Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett and Rochester Mayor Jeff Cuthbertson.

Friday and Saturday join the thousands of visitors who annually attend to enjoy the live Oompah and polka music, Bavarian dancing and children's activities taking place behind the brewery's Rochester location. The two-day extravaganza also includes carnival games, moonwalks, a climbing wall, pony rides, petting zoo, clowns, as well as balloon and tattoo artists for the kids. Those young at heart can participate in the ever-popular sauerkraut-eating or stein hoisting competitions. The festival tent is open from 5-11pm on Friday and from 1-11pm on Saturday. Admission is only $5 for adults; children 16 and under get in free (with a paid adult). All proceeds from the annual event benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan and the YMCA North Oakland County Waves swim club.

"Rochester Mills' Oktoberfest has become one of the best in Michigan. The party draws repeat attendees locally and from across the state," said Rochester Mills Beer Co. marketing director David Youngman. "With each passing year, we aim to enhance our signature events and making the 2011 Oktoberfest Seasonal Lager available beyond the brewery allows more residents to enjoy the experience throughout the season."

Head Brewer Eric Briggeman has prepared fresh batches of Rochester Mills Water Street Wheat (German-style Hefe-Weizen), Lazy Daze Lite (American-style light beer) and this year's Oktoberfest (German-style lager). This year will also feature German liqueur Jägermeister drink specials.

A full menu and selection of beers on tap will be available inside the brewery during the event. Free entertainment inside the brewery features live performances by The Sun Messengers on Friday and The Remedy on Saturday, both starting at 10pm.
