OKARCHE, OK, November 14, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Chevrolet donated 50 Express cargo vans, Traverse crossovers, and Tahoe full-size SUVs to the American Red Cross. Chevrolet hopes these vehicles will safely transport supplies, volunteers, and other relief efforts for the victims of the hurricane.---
"It is during disasters like this that we all need to pull together as a country and Chevrolet has a role in that," said General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson. "Making these vehicles available quickly where they can do the most good is something we can do right now."
This is not the first time General Motors has donated to the Red Cross. Earlier, the GM Foundation donated $250,000 to its Disaster Responder Program, enabling quick response to disasters across the country. This is exactly what the American Red Cross did after the hurricane hit.
The American Red Cross has been assisting those affected on the East Coast since the hurricane. One of the ways the nonprofit organization is helping is by providing shelter and serving meals to the victims. Care packages have been sent from various donors and are much appreciated. The most useful donations are, however, monetary as the American Red Cross is assessing the damages and delicates the funds as necessary.
For those interested in donating to the Hurricane Sandy victims, the American Red Cross is accepting donations online on its website or over the phone by calling 1-800-733-2767.
