For example, in Georgia children under the age of eight and less than 57 inches tall must ride in a child safety seat, a rear seat if one is available. The fine for a first offense is $50. Further, 48 states have laws on the books requiring booster seats for children who have outgrown their safety seats but are still too small for a normal-sized adult seat. Florida and South Dakota are the only states without these laws.
