/24-7PressRelease/ -- Clarke's first sale of 2009 offers its classic blend of fine American, French, and English antique furniture; fine art including rare works, Midcentury Modern Design, a strong collection of fine American and English Sterling Silver, Antique Italian Putti, Antique and Art Deco Chandeliers, semi-antique oriental carpets, and more.
Antique and traditional furniture includes an unusual antique American Empire secretary, 8 period Regency dining chairs, a c.1810 mahogany tall case clock, a Regency style plant stand, a Victorian rosewood and inlaid server, an antique secretaire abatant, an antique chest with flip-top, a Victorian Eastlake-style secretary with gilt-metal figural mounts along with a small Eastlake-style firplace mantel and surround, and a painted Victorian etagere.
Among the unique items offered is a signed and stamped
1870 Russian bronze of a troika by Evgeni Alexandrovich Lanceray, direct from a local White Russian family with Tsarist connections.
Midcentury Modern includes an estate-fresh suite designed by Jens Risom including a pair of signed chests, an executive desk, and a bed and bookcases attributed to Risom; an exceptional Aldo Tura parchment, brass and glass three-tiered teacart; and pieces by George Nelson, John Widdicomb, and Harry Bertoia. Midcentury decorative arts includes three sculptural ceramics from the artist Erik Gronborg, a signed Curtis Jere bronze scuplture, a Natalia Mela bronze of a Greek Warrior, and a pair of mixed metal wall sculpture dated '74.
Decorative arts include a pair of antique polychrome Italian Putti on Plinths, signed Meissen figures, collections of Herend and Lladro figural pieces, Limoges boxes, Zsolnay lustreware, Hollohaza porcelain, Edwin M Knowles fish porcelain service, Royal Dux figural group and Royal Doulton Tobys.
An
exceptional sterling collection features a 7 piece Arts & Crafts tea service from SHREVE & CO, a 67 piece San Lorenzo service by Tiffany, a 126 piece Gorham Chantilly service, an 89 piece Gorham Camellia service, a partial antique English service, and assorted sterling chargers and hollowware.
Fine art includes two watercolors by Abraham Walkowitz, a original oil on canvas 1947 cover illustration for MOTOR magazine by Robert Robinson, a rare 1889 oil portrait by Caroline Coventry-Haynes, 7 Old Master oils on board, a fine Marthe Solange still life and other art.
