/24-7PressRelease/ - LA JOLLA, CA, June 27, 2008 - The Madison Gallery has acquired some important works by Colombian Sculptor Alicia Maria Puerta. "Surrealism in Bronze and Concrete: By Alicia Maria Puerta" showcases four sculptures by Puerta. In "Uye - Ouch(bronze)" she explains that..."time passes on, days and hopes. Time goes by and he gets old. Too many changes, too many positions. Late but conscious he discovers that he can heal and forgive himself. He twists, stretches and starts to break free. Liberty and indifference invades him. Hurt but gentle, continues his process. Now there is color in his world." Within each angle the viewer can observe the tension and lines that make "Uye-Ouch" something to be touched. A pattern of pressure is realized throughout the sculpture thus realizing a feeling of weight and heaviness.

In her bronze/concrete piece titled "Caida Libre - Free Fall" she defines the subject as "the warrior, inventor and constructor of dreams, decides to fly. Travels through native land; and now decides to conquer heaven from where he comes from and towards someday he will return. Equipped, full of faith, decides to descend in free fall. Wants to discover continents, heal his fears and wounds and confronts the inhospitable, but encouraging future. He is terrified. At the same time so much panic and so much hope invades his soul. But he knows that he will never be alone ... he will always be with "her".

ARTIST STATEMENT:
I have based my life on the search for form and content. In revealing the shadows by interpreting and walking through emptiness. In the creation of color when only shadow and grey tones stand out. Identifying space for then converting it in infinite and to be able to interrelate it with finite, human and material. Giving life to inexistent. Applying the transmutation of materials through haptic game. Generating new essential lives when the true reality was that they were not indispensable. In the demand of naming things as they are for each and everyone and place them in its space. Indicating the urgency of being touched, felted and remembered. Converting material into immaterial. By occupying and inhabiting a space without tormenting, bothering or spoiling it. Softening only the forms that require being softened and let those how they are, want to be or need to express. In the urgent need of silence. Bearing in mind the constant quest for the infinite, ethereal and sublime. Determining the proper selection of material that speaks for the masterpiece, without asphyxiating, suffocating or possessing it. Allowing the masterpiece to grow inside and out, by permitting its spirit to flow and navigate through areas that were previously believed inert or insensitive. In the correct balance of visual equilibrium, combining form with bottom, color with shadow, finite with the infinite. Recognizing the strength of the masterpiece because of its importance and tacit message without creating apathy or rejection. In the dedicated and delicated implementation of the senses without omitting any because of visual indolence or tactile negligence. In the conversion of unknown for known or familiar.
