/24-7PressRelease/ -- Around the world, both amateur and professional athletes are preparing for the annual Barcelona Half Marathon on February 8th 2009 at 09:00 local time, which gets the Spanish city warmed up before the yearly Full Marathon takes place in early March.
The organisers of the event - which is also known as the Asics Mitja Marato de Barcelona - explain that the 2008 event was massively popular, attracting a record number of participants.
Some 3,660 people took part in it - over a thousand more than in 2007.
As such, the maximum number of athletes able to take part in the competition in 2009 has been increased to 4,500.
"The Half Marathon, at a distance of 21.097 kilometres, is for many athletes the ideal setting for a training session," Pere Alcober i Solanas, one of the organisers, notes.

Anyone with enough speed and stamina to finish in the top three stands to win prizes ranging from 400 to 1,000 and a trophy, while all participants will take home a souvenir T-shirt.
