MANCHESTER, NH, October 10, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Technology and a good VW repair manual are helping Corey Smith (of Nottingham, NH) and Emily King (of York, ME) travel the United States for eight months, living and working out of their 1987 VW Vanagon. Currently, they are raising funds to produce a web series about this lifestyle and have crossed paths with other roadies that have found that today, one does not need to be place-based and can much more easily combine work with pleasure travel. ---
Long-time Seacoast residents, Smith and King both graduated from the University of New Hampshire. On January 28th, 2013, they left New England to live a lifestyle of simplicity and adventure. Since then, they've documented their journey through their blog called Where's My Office Now? and on social media. Where's My Office Now? is an inquiry into the merging of an adventurous nomadic lifestyle, with what has traditionally been a 9-5 career.
On the road, both Smith and King develop websites for small businesses. King also works remotely for Cookson Strategies Corporation, a communications firm out of Manchester, NH. "Emily has not missed a beat working with us and is insanely accessible, be it from a Walmark parking lot or a national park...when they were open," said Matt Cookson, president of Cookson Strategies.
"It's never been a better time to live a nomadic lifestyle. Many companies are looking for employees or freelancers who can work remotely, plus today's technology enables working from the road" said King.
On September 29th, Smith and King launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise $7,600 to fund a reality web series that honestly depicts this nomadic lifestyle and working on the road. With this money, they will hire a filmmaker to live with them. The filmmaker will film, edit and release six video episodes in 6 weeks.
"With automation and outsourcing at record highs, it's evident that we must apply creativity to our skill sets if we are to thrive and live our dreams. Therefore, we believe it's imperative to show our journey as a viable simplistic lifestyle," King added.
