Miriam Lassiter began working as a Medicaid specialist almost ten years ago. But her career in the medical field actually started in the mid 1990s as a medical billing professional for a medical equipment company and later in a nephrologists' office.
Now responsible for the billing and submission of Florida Medicaid claims (primary, secondary, and tertiary), which include Medicaid HMOs, Share-of-Cost primary and secondary, and Emergency Medicaid for non-American citizens, She also makes adjustments, resubmissions, voids claims on the Medicaid online portal, plus a host of various other duties. No two days are the same.
"Dedication and the desire to keep up to date with the times through continued education are very important to me," Lassiter said. "Being organized and the ability to follow a work schedule to meet deadlines are also important in my line of work."
Now working toward her bachelor's degree in human resources at Strayer University, Lassiter has two associate's degrees, one in computer applications from Business Informatics Center, and one in healthcare administration from Keiser University. She is also the recipient of a Student Activities Bronze Key for recognition of quality participation in student activities from Kingsborough Community College. In her free time, Lasssiter enjoys travelling. She has visited The Bahamas; Grand Cayman Island; Cozumel, Mexico; Israel; Germany; and the Czech Republic, and plans to travel to Alaska in the summer of 2013.
