EDINBURG, VA, January 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/
-- Craftsman Construction was brought in early in the design process, to help consult and value engineer this project. The clients Father is a retired Architect that we have done work for in the past. Since his daughter had modest needs we wanted to design a small compact house that still had a lot of character.
After several consultations with the clients Father he drew up a set of plans for his daughters house. Since the clients Father was an old school Architect he never learned how to draw in CAD (computer aided design), so we took his drawings and programmed them into our CAD system. This allowed us to make changes to the drawings more readily, as well as distribute the drawings electronically to all the different sub contractors."Having the drawings available in CAD format is a big time saver said Jerry Jackness, President of Craftsman Construction".
Craftsman Construction broke ground on this project in the early fall. The lot was heavily wooded and we wanted to be as selective as possible in taking down trees. "It is important to be as friendly as possible to the environment said Mr. Jackness".
Many cutting edge products were used in the construction of this home. The foundation of the house was built using ICF's (insulated concrete forms). These forms look just like giant Lego blocks made out of Styrofoam. When they are locked together and filled with concrete you have a very energy efficient wall (R-38). This technology is the future in energy efficient basement wall design.
Another cutting edge product that we used is SPF (Spray Polyurethane Foam) insulation instead of the old fiberglass insulation. SPF insulation is an amazing product. This stuff is sprayed on the walls with special high pressure equipment. As soon as it touches the wall it sticks to it and expands at a high rate, thus sealing all holes in the building envelope. "I am so impressed with this product that our company has made a substantial financial commitment to buying our own equipment to install this product in all our future projects said Mr. Jackness".
Other environmentally friendly products used were siding that is made from concrete, this product is fire proof and will never rot and is low maintenance. Floor joist made from Engineered Lumber, this product is made from small growth trees thus saving lumber. PVC exterior trim, this product is made from plastic ,it will never rot and is very low maintenance. Energy efficient windows with LOW- E Glass. A high efficiency Heat Pump rounded out the energy saving upgrades.
All in all the project turned out great, the client is happy and the low energy bills are icing on the cake. If you are interested in having your energy efficient home custom built please contact Craftsman Construction for a consultation.
