MARCH 18, 2010 /from the Stanford Who's Who blog/ -- Creativity is an ability which is intertwined within the internal fabric of our being. For some, this glorious gift comes more naturally than with others, but each one of us is blessed with. The creative process is one which can provide you with therapeutic qualities that cannot be found while sprawled out on the couch of your licensed therapist. It is a healing agent that can only be found within an individual's heart and mind.

Everyone should partake in the process of creative expression. Not only can you push forth something that means a lot to you, but you may also find some things inside that you are stored deep in the memory banks. You may find out you have a talent you were previously not aware of.

Anyone can pick up a paint brush and create an artistic piece of work. Not everyone can be Picasso, but that does not mean you cannot create. Not everyone will be Shakespeare either, but that does not mean you cannot write a work of poetry or a story about something that interests you.

Write, take photos, paint, make junk art, or use whatever other creative outlet you can think of to express your feelings and thoughts. You may incredibly and pleasantly surprised by what you come up with. You may even discover a hidden talent that will stay with you for the rest of your life. At the very least, it will provide you with the relaxation that all of us need from time to time.

Tracie Claflin-Bryant, who earned a Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy and now teaches Art at Bloomington High School in Fontana, California is rather familiar with the therapeutic qualities of creativity. She is always encouraging others to be pro-active and unleash the unique creativity that resides within each and every one of us.
