APPLE VALLEY, MN, January 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- February 1, 2013 is Give Kids a Smile Day across the United States, and Dakota Dental's Apple Valley Dentists, Dr. Shelley Wakefield and Dr. Bennett Isabella, along with their staff will participate again by providing free dental care to Minnesota children. The Give Kids a Smile program provides no-cost dental care for children in low-income homes.

The nationwide program was launched in 2003 as an opportunity for members of the American Dental Association to join together to provide dental services to children in need. Participating dentists and dental care team members volunteer their time and services to benefit nearly 450,000 children.

In Minnesota last year, nearly 5,000 children were served from about 200 locations around the state. Services that the Dakota Dental team donates for this charitable outreach program include preventative oral health care, fluoride treatments, cleanings and sealants, and restorative services such as fillings.

In addition to Give Kids a Smile Day, the Dakota Dental Apple Valley Dental Clinic participates in events during the month of February in recognition of Children's Dental Health Month. Dr. Wakefield and Dr. Isabella speak to schools, parenting and church groups and other organizations within the community to advocate for proper oral health care and wellness.

Individuals interested in receiving free dental services through the Give Kids A Smile program should be 18 years or younger and need to have a parent or legal guardian accompany them. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the Dakota Dental Apple Valley Dental Clinic at 952-431-5774. Scheduling a presentation for a classroom or youth group from Dr. Shelley Wakefield or Dr. Bennett Isabella may also be arranged by calling this number.
