David Bates Recognized for Achievements in Military Nursing

    CAMBERLEY, SURREY, UNITED KINGDOM, March 6, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Bates, Director of Army Nursing Services for the Army Medical Directorate in Army Headquarters, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing, medical administration and research.

With an impressive 35 years of experience in nursing and military medicine, David is uniquely positioned to promote and protect the health of British soldiers which is his passion and to develop Army nursing through the Army Medical Directorate. This military organization provides army nurses with medical and health services. As Director of Army Nursing Services, David develops policy, doctrine and training for the nursing component of military medicine. He is also responsible for the selection of potential officers and is President of the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC) Arms Selection Board. As Director Army Healthcare Requirements and Assurance he is the Army's 'intelligent customer,' utilizing his expertise in nursing, public health, medical research and clinical leadership to help set and monitor the Army's requirements for health and care. He visits health centres and hospitals that care for British soldiers, meeting patients and staff in order to peer review practises, ensure requirements are being met and to assure the qulaity of health or clinical outcomes. He is also a member of Defence level Customer Advisory Boards.

He also serves as President of QARANC Association whose membership is drawn from serving (Regular and Reserve) and retired members of the Corps. Its purpose is to promote esprit de corps through friendship, benevolence, preserving the Corps' heritage and developing the image of military nursing through research and education. He was a Non Executive Director on the Florence Nightingale Foundation's Board of Trustees and is currently a Trustee on the Army Medical Services Museum Board.

Mr. David has obtained Masters Degrees in both medical education and international public health as well as a being a Bachelor of Nursing and election as a Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Management in 2009. After nearly four decades of service, his impressive achievements have been recognized by countless organizations including Worldwide Branding, the Institute of Healthcare Management, The Worshipful Company of Apothecaries Faculty of Catastrophe & Disaster Medicine, World Society of Disaster Nursing, the ICRC Healthcare in Danger Expert Panel, Defence Medical Services' Faculty of Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Medicine and the UK Royal College of Nursing. He is an Associate of the Royal Red Cross and a Queen's Honourary Nurse.

Looking forward, David aims to regain his international connections with a view to working in humanitarian assistance or disaster relief programmes when he leaves the Services in two years time. He is interested in working with government, international and non-governmental organisations. He has the ability to assess, plan, execute and evaluate health systems or programmes from the tactical to strategic levels.
