DETAILS:
"The Art of Disaster" is the first film produced through the inaugural Scene From Both Sides program. In the four-week class, students participated in the production of the short film and experienced all the stages of filmmaking first-hand, including writing, directing, shooting, editing, and screening the finished film; their progress was documented in video blogs on WOAI.com and on WOAI's "San Antonio Living".
Produced by Nikki Young (President of PrimaDonna Productions, Inc.) and Chadd Green, "The Art of Disaster" tells the story of an unlucky lackey (played by Chevo Mendoza) who finds himself trapped in a comic nightmare when he is forced to bring his son to the office on a very bad day. Besides Mendoza, the cast also includes Anissa Carr, Bobby Garces, Liz Moise Gonzalez, Patsy V. Whitfield, and Monica Williams, with special appearances by local favorites Roy Bumgarner and Ronald R. Bush, plus a slew of extras.
"The students came from different backgrounds and had different levels of experience in the industry, but they all committed themselves fully to the class and to the film," says Young. "The best part of the whole experience, for me, has been watching them learn and grow through all the challenges of filmmaking. I'm so proud of them!"
In addition to Young and Green, Lee Hurtado and A.J. Garces round out the team of instructors for this fun and intensive semi-annual program.
Also screening that evening will be "High School Football Spotlight: Jimmy Jo Johnson", a short film produced by students from Scene From Both Sides, upon completion of the program, for the San Antonio Film Commission's SA 48HR Film Experience.
Williams, a participant in Scene From Both Sides who worked on both films, says, "We learned so much working on 'The Art of Disaster', and had so much fun doing it, that we wanted to put our skills to the test on another film. It was an incredible experience, and lo and behold, we won second place overall. Thanks to everyone who helped us through the process of making both films!"
