August 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Edith Fairman Cooper, Retired Analyst in Social Science for the Congressional Research Service (CRS) at the United States Library of Congress (LC) has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in behavioral and social science, and domestic social policy issues.

Prior to retirement, Ms. Cooper gained expertise in a variety of behavioral and social science, and domestic social policy issues over 35 years by conducting research and writing numerous CRS Reports for Congress and several congressional committee publications. She covered such diverse issues as the impact of television and other media entertainment violence on society, federal activities involved in the U.S. Conversion to the Metric System, U.S. Science and Engineering Education and Manpower, autism research, alcohol use and abuse by teens, youth violence, juvenile crime, school violence, youth suicide, post traumatic stress disorder in Vietnam Veterans, the possible origins of homosexuality, and the definition and question of choice regarding sexual orientation, federal assistance programs for children exposed to domestic violence, missing and exploited children, and numerous other related social policy issues.

In 2002 and 2003, respectively, Ms. Cooper's CRS Reports for Congress entitled, "The Emergence of Crack Cocaine Abuse in the United States," and "Missing and Exploited Children: Overview and Policy Concerns," were published by Novinka Books, an imprint of Nova Science Publishers, Inc., Hauppauge, NY. As a personal project, in 2002, she was inspired to conduct objective historical research about the Seventh-day Adventist church. In 2007, her findings were published as a book entitled, "It's All About Jesus: Observations of a Former Seventh-day Adventist," PublishAmerica, Baltimore, MD. An avid family history buff, Ms. Cooper began conducting family history research in 1982. In 1996, she copyrighted her work entitled, "The Kelly Family Narrative: Through the Line of Louis Durr Kelly and Hannah Jane Wilcher," recounting her mother's paternal lineage. The book was cataloged, bound, placed on the shelf in LC, and cited by the Library's Local History and Genealogy Team in the publication, "African American Family Histories and Related Works in the Library of Congress." Ms. Cooper became involved in her profession after moving from Oklahoma City to Washington, D.C. in 1971, following graduation from Oklahoma State University (OSU). A few months later, she was hired by the Library of Congress. She attributes her success to her faith in Jesus Christ.

Ms. Cooper, who received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1971, from OSU was awarded two diplomas in 2006, in radio announcing and television announcing, respectively, from the Columbia School of Broadcasting, Fairfax, VA. Also, she received a diploma in 1981, from the Institute of Children's Literature of Redding Ridge, CT as a freelance writer for children and teenagers. She is a member of the National Active and Retired Federal

Employees Association, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a Founding Sponsor of the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc., a Founding Member of the National Campaign for Tolerance (Montgomery, AL), and a member of Church of the Redeemer Non-denominational Church, Gaithersburg, MD. In five years, Ms. Cooper hopes that some of her copyrighted children's stories will be published and available for readers, as well as other personal works.
