Elene Gedevanishvili Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Library Management
Ms. Gedevanishvili is passionate about helping students develop learning skills

    HOUSTON, TX, January 26, 2012 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Elene Gedevanishvili, Library Director for The Art Institute of Houston, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in library management.

Ms. Gedevanishvili has built a substantial career in the library management field, as she has always maintained a passion for and an interest in library and information management. Now in her fourth year as the library director of The Art Institute of Houston, Ms. Gedevanishvili runs all aspects of the library, reviews existing library collections for continued curriculum relevance, and allocates resources needed to support all academic programs offered by the Art Institute of Houston. In addition, she consults with the dean, librarians and other professionals in library management, as well as officials at the local and corporate levels. She prepares financial and annual reports, creates joint projects with faculty, and participates in creating bibliographic instructional presentations for students on information literacy and plagiarism.

Ms. Gedevanishvili feels that her passion for developing students' knowledge of and appreciation for information literacy has allowed her to shine in her chosen field, and she has garnered recognition and honors throughout her career. Ms. Gedevanishvili has worked in the library management sphere both in Europe and in the United States, building her dexterity and sharpening a broad range of skills. Ms. Gedevanishvili, who is fluent in Georgian, Russian and English, has fifteen years of experience as a medical and academic librarian. In addition, she has served as an English-language instructor, translator and proofreader.

Prompted by an early love for the field of library science to pursue a career in the area, Ms. Gedevanishvili earned a Master of Arts in Modern Languages from State University of Foreign Languages Tbilisi, Georgia and a Master of Library Science in library science and information studies from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She also holds a Certificate of Completion for Library Science and Information Management Courses at Emporia State University in Kansas. In addition, she received a Certificate of Achievement from the USAID & AED Social Policy Development Program in Washington, DC. She is a member of the Texas Library Association, the American Library Association, and the Medical Library Association, among other notable organizations.

Ms. Gedevanishvili served as a librarian for the Department of Beam Therapy at the National Cancer Center in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 1984 to 1990, and from 1990 to 1992, she functioned as a medical librarian in the same subdivision. She worked as a translator and proofreader at the Center of National Economic Achievements in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 1986 to 1992, and as an English language instructor at the Tbilisi State University from 1992 to 1995. She was regional office manager of the World Council of Hellenes Greek Medical Fund in Tbilisi and executive director of the Foundation "Georgian Library" in Tbilisi from 1997 to 2003, as well. At The Art Institute of Houston, she plans to continue to expand the library's collection to meet the needs of faculty and students, develop bibliographic instructional presentations and workshops on information literacy and plagiarism in order to train library patrons to use the library's print and digital resources efficiently.
