LOS ANGELES, CA, December 11, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elliott Broidy and Rotimi Rainwater are bringing attention to youth homelessness with a film premiere for the movie 'Sugar' in San Diego. Proceeds from the event will go to San Diego Youth Services and Stand Up for Kids, two local organizations that are helping homeless youth overcome obstacles.

'Sugar' has drawn critical acclaim for being a socially significant and realistic film about life on the streets for American youth. Based on first-hand experiences from Director Rotimi Rainwater, 'Sugar' earned a congressional screening in June and won a 'Film Heals' Award at The Manhattan Film Festival in July.

An innovative marketing campaign has relied heavily on grass efforts through social media to help the independent movie achieve unlikely success. The production team also raised money through Indiegogo, a crowd funding platform. The money will go towards providing meals for homeless youth.

For the premiere in San Diego, a portion of these funds will be used to deliver 250 sub sandwiches for Stand Up for Kids and San Diego Youth Services.

In advance of the San Diego premiere, Executive Producer Elliott Broidy noted that 'Sugar' deserves to succeed, according to a December 3rd news release.

Although young adults comprise the fastest growing segment of America's homeless, their plight is relatively unknown and social services are struggling to adapt accordingly. As an understudied phenomenon, there is little data to determine the success of outreach efforts.

Aside from San Diego, 'Sugar' is expected to have screenings in cities with large homeless youth numbers. This has so far included Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.

Through bringing the poignant film to cities most challenged by youth homelessness, Elliott Broidy commented that 'Sugar' is a humanitarian effort.
