Elliott Broidy Helps Rally Support for Los Angeles Culture at the Wilshire Boulevard Temple
The oldest Jewish Temple in Los Angeles showcased recent renovations to its' storied auditorium with a historic performance from the L.A. Philharmonic.
LOS ANGELES, CA, January 02, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elliott Broidy and notable guests brought attention to a renaissance in the Los Angeles cultural scene through a mid-December musical event at Wilshire Boulevard Temple. The audience was treated to a special three piece performance from the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
As a famed landmark, Wilshire Boulevard Temple is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its Byzantine architecture features a 100 foot dome that is an acoustical marvel. A changing city has led many congregation members to move further west over time. This shift led to disrepair and reduced performances at the temple's iconic auditorium.
The demise caught the attention of community members of all faiths, as multiple offers to buy the building were made. Elliott Broidy noted the event showcased renovations to the oldest Jewish temple in Los Angeles and reflected broad community support, as reported in a December 17th news release.
A push to restore the Wilshire Boulevard Temple culminated in multi-million dollar renovations spanning two years. A slew of upgrades included air conditioning and multiple cosmetic improvements. The December concert was a celebration of community and fine music, according to philanthropist Elliott Broidy.
With numerous city leaders in attendance, the Koreatown district also garnered praise. Much like the Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Koreatown is a vital aspect of Los Angeles culture and history. The concert event allowed the downtown area to exhibit its own successful transformation.
Now a diverse and multicultural hotspot, Koreatown has a thriving arts scene that complements the revitalized temple. Congregation leaders hope to parlay momentum from the auditorium reopening into expanded social services.
