GULF SHORES, AL, July 04, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While others are moping around during the lazy, hazy days of summer, check out the incredible selection of hands-on animal encounters at the extremely popular "Little Zoo That Could." Located in the heart of Gulf Shores, this charming zoo - which is officially named the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo - has developed a reputation for its close observation decks and personable staff. However, zoo officials are bringing the guests' experience to the next level with its encounters.

"We want people to leave our little zoo with a deeper appreciation, understanding and respect for all creatures," said Patti Hall, zoo director. "One way to work toward this goal is by giving guests a safe and controlled environment to interact and play with some of our babies. This summer, we are debuting separate lemur and kangaroo encounters and of course, continuing our very popular tiger cub encounters.

Lemur Encounter
Discover how much fun playtime is four baby Ruffed Lemurs. When these babies come out to play in their shaded and screened enclosure, guests will have a 10 minute encounter within their giant playpen. This experience is appropriate for all guests over the age of 3 years old. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a paying adult. The cost is $10.00 per person plus the cost of regular zoo admission. To make a reservation, please call the zoo at 251-968-4910.

Kangaroo Encounter
Hop along mate to the Outback Exhibit, which features baby Red Kangaroos. Playtime for these youngsters never ends. The encounters are open to guests of all ages. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a paying adult. The cost is $5.00 per person plus the cost of regular zoo admission. Reservations are not required. Instead, tickets are sold in the gift shop and by the attendant at the attraction.

Tiger Cub Encounter
While the current baby tigers will soon return to their permanent home at the Marcan Tiger Preserve, a new litter of precious cubs should arrive in mid to late July. The cost is $25.00 for children ages 4-12 and $50.00 for adults. Please note that children's encounters are only available when the cubs are very young, and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

The zoo hopes to have encounters beginning mid-August. Guests wishing to experience hands on time with the tigers cubs are encouraged to book a Bengal tiger encounter as soon as possible since reservations fill quickly. To make a reservation, please call the zoo at 251-968-4910.

Tigers of India Show
Returning this summer due to popular demand, the unprecedented Tigers of India - which is proudly presented by the Marcan Tiger Preserve - showcases the mesmerizing power and beauty of Bengal tigers.

Two shows will be presented daily from Tuesday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Admission to this show is $2.00 plus regular admission prices.

The "Tigers of India" show will be at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo until the end of the summer season.

The zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admits the last guest at 3:30. Admission is $10.00 for adults (ages 13-54), $8.00 for seniors (55+), and $7.00 for children (ages 3-12). Children 2 years of age and under are admitted free of charge. For more information, please call 251-968-5731 or visit http://www.alabamagulfcoastzoo.com.
