RALEIGH, NC, January 06, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine (http://www.enterprisingwomen.com), has appointed Nicola Hawkinson and Laurie De Jong to the Enterprising Women Advisory Board.

Nicola Hawkinson is the founder and CEO of SpineSearch, a full service recruitment, education and consulting company dedicated to orthopedic spine surgeons, neurosurgeons and pain management physicians based in New York City. Hawkinson began her career as a nurse after graduating from the University of Delaware with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She then became an expert in surgical procedures while working as an operating room nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She decided to continue her education by pursuing her master's degree in adult acute care at New York University while also working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in thoracic surgery. There, she became certified as a chemotherapy nurse. Upon graduation, she began working with orthopedic surgeons Dr. Frank Schwab and Dr. Ronald Grelsamer, where she became highly knowledgeable in the area of spine, knee and hip health. Shortly thereafter, Hawkinson became a registered nurse first assistant and went on to receive her doctorate in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Along with her CEO role, Hawkinson is an active member of the North American Spine Society and serves on the Allied Health Section Committee.

Laurie De Jong began her career in 1988 at Calvin Klein Cosmetics Company where she oversaw the sales promotion, beauty advisor training and launches of the company's key fragrances. After leaving Calvin Klein in 1994, she became a partner and the COO of JR Morrissey, a women's clothing company in New York City. After achieving $5 million in wholesale volume in three years, the firm launched another successful label called Womyn, which was sold to a large conglomerate in 2000. De Jong then launched LDJ Productions in 1999, initially targeting the many charitable events held in the Hamptons. In 2001, LDJ won the bid to produce the relaunch for Matrix Essentials, a division of L'Oreal USA, and remains the brand's production partner for shows and events worldwide. In 2002, LDJ was brought on to provide staffing for all IMG Fashion Week venue and site management positions at New York, Los Angeles and Miami fashion weeks, as well as Mumbai Fashion Week in India. De Jong's commitment to the event production industry is matched by her lifelong volunteer efforts with disadvantaged women and youth. She has worked with the Fresh Air Fund to offer her home as a vacation spot for inner city youth, which has allowed her to empower many young men and women. De Jong is also a member of the National Association of Female Executives, the Women Presidents' Educational Organization and the National Association of Professional Women.
