EVEN IF YOUR POWER GOES OUT, YOU CAN STILL GET IN OR OUT
Chamberlain Helps Weather the Storm with the EverCharge Standby Power System Designed to Open Garage Door During Power Outages

/24-7PressRelease/ - ELMHURST, IL, August 23, 2008 - For the hundreds of thousands of homeowners all over the country who have experienced a blackout or power outage this year alone, it usually results in more than just traffic jams, blinking alarm clocks, delays at the ballpark and store closings. In addition to salvaging food from a warm refrigerator or searching for working flashlights, many homeowners who use an automatic garage door opener also quickly realize that their cars, as well as secure access to their homes, are inconveniently blocked by a heavy garage door. To enter or exit through the garage during a power outage, people are forced to disengage the opener and manually lift the door, which quickly eliminates the accustomed convenience and safety of having an automatic garage door opener.

Since an operating garage door opener also serves as a lock to the garage door when the power goes out, the growing number of homeowners who rely on the garage door as the primary entrance to their home soon realize that this entrance was no longer automatically locked, creating a security issue for many.

While it is nearly impossible to predict when and where a power outage will occur, The Chamberlain Group, the world's largest garage door opener manufacturer and leading access control innovator, has developed a system to help residents, homeowners and property managers prepare for these unforeseen outages by developing a garage door opener equipped with a battery backup system such as the EverCharge Standby Power System.

"Since the garage door is the largest and heaviest moving part in one's home, we always recommend installing a garage door opener with the EverCharge Standby Power System as an easy and reliable way to ensure security, safety and convenience during a power outage," states Sally Anderson, vice president of marketing communications and customer advocacy.

Whether it is a professionally installed LiftMaster brand product sold through a network of trained dealers or a Chamberlain-branded opener purchased at a home improvement store, the EverCharge Standby Power System provides homeowners with a safe, practical and reliable access solution for entering or exiting their garage when the power is out. The EverCharge Standby Power System supplies power for up to two days. Even after 24 hours of standby time (i.e. full-day power outage), it will still perform 20 full "up and down" cycles.

Once power is lost to the home, the EverCharge Standby Power System will automatically begin operating. Since Chamberlain is dedicated to safety, the standby power system operates as if the power were still on so all remote controls and garage door opener safety systems, such as The Protector System safety reversing sensors, work normally.

Also, to notify the homeowner that the garage door opener is operating under battery power, a series of recognizable, audible sounds signal when the door is opening or closing under battery power. As an added safety feature, a flashing LED light alerts the homeowner when the EverCharge Standby Power System is charging, in use, or when the batteries need to be replaced. The battery, which has a life of roughly three-to-five years under normal use, is warranted for one year from the date of purchase to the original owner.

"As a leader in home access solutions, we know the importance of providing homeowners with added peace-of-mind when entering or exiting their homes. A garage door opener that still safely and securely opens and performs, even during a power outage, is truly a benefit," added Anderson.
