Boulder dentist Dr. Gordon West lived every six year old's dream by sitting in a room filled with over four tons of candy he collected from local children. While this may sound like Bond villain behavior, Dr. West has more charitable motives for stockpiling delicious treats. By leading the 5th annual Cash4Candy initiative this year on Nov 2nd, Dr. West hopes to duplicate last year's success. During this drive, children will receive $1 for every pound of candy they drop off at the Cash4Candy donation points. The candy will then be donated to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to individuals serving overseas in our Armed Forces.
Area schools participate in this popular yearly event and compete to see who can donate the most candy. The winning school receives a $1000 check. The Cash4Candy event has been an incredible success and continues to build momentum each year. During this year's drive, Dr. West will try to beat 2011's record candy haul, which weighed in at over 8,000 lbs.
The YMCA of Boulder Valley Arapahoe Center will help contribute to the Cash4Candy drive by collecting donations of unopened bags of candy at their yearly Halloween party. Join them Monday October 29th from 5:30-7:30pm for a haunted house, games, ice-skating, and more. Visit

With global sugar consumption for kids at 50 million tons per year, health risks like hyperactivity and weight gain, as well as cavities and damaged orthodontia, are a growing concern for both dentists and parents. This event helps to promote oral health while brightening the lives of others.
For those interested in donating, this year's Cash4Candy drive will be held November 2nd from 3-6pm at two convenient locations: 2919 Valmont Road, Ste 106, Boulder CO & 1140 West South Boulder Rd, Ste 201, Lafayette CO. There will be a drawing for door prizes, including an iPad. Come by, donate some candy and know that your children's smiles will be a little brighter when they donate their candy to a worthy cause.
