-- Father files wrongful death suit after Missouri car accident
In April 2013, a man from Jackson, Missouri, allegedly crossed the centerline with his box truck and collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle. Unfortunately, the accident claimed the life of a teenager in an oncoming sport utility vehicle. Subsequent investigations revealed that the motorist that crossed the centerline might have been under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamines at the time of the collision.
It did not take long before the father of the deceased teen filed a wrongful-death suit
against the driver of the truck. The family also initiated actions against the driver's employer.
According to the Southeast Missourian and relevant court documents, the driver of the box truck was "operating the box truck while in an intoxicated and/or drugged condition" at the time of the car accident
The good news is that there were witnesses. According to one, the driver of the box truck almost ran off the side of the road before jerking the vehicle toward oncoming cars. The witness adds that the motorist returned to his truck after the incident and removed a mobile phone to call someone. Moreover, the driver was said to be in a very distraught state after the accident. He was on his knees in a ditch. Two other individuals claimed to have seen the box truck swerving in and out of its lane just a few miles before the accident.
In late August 2013, a court gave the green light to the case. It has progressed forward, and is now in the discovery process.
