/24-7PressRelease/ -- For most children, the holiday season is about presents, caroling and spending time with family. However, for abused children who are in protective state custody, the holiday season is just another reminder of how lonely life can be. Arizona currently has over 10,000 foster children in care who do not have a family to call their own.
Since 2005, Hope & A Future has hosted a Christmas celebration for all children and teens who've ever taken part in their programs, along with their foster families and group homes. The Christmas celebration is held at the Phoenix Zoo with the Zoo Lights spectacle along with a catered dinner for those in attendance, entertainment, arts and crafts for the children, holiday desserts, and age-appropriate gifts for each child. Over 300 foster children are expected to be in attendance this year.
Miss Phoenix, Goettl Air Conditioning and Zion & Zion are asking the community to participate by picking a child that has asked for a gift, buying the item and dropping it off at 464 S. Farmer Ave, Suite 105 Tempe, AZ 85281. You can request a child by emailing missphoenix2009@gmail.com, or make a tax deductible monetary donation online at http://www.azhope.com/donate. All gifts must be dropped off at the designated location by Monday, December 14.

Miss Phoenix 2009, Ursulline Okonkwo, has been a Chandler, Arizona resident for most of her life. In addition to pursuing a degree in Global Leadership with emphasis in Financial Management at Arizona State University, Okonkwo served as president of a local chapter of the American Women's Business Association and is currently an assistant coach for Girls on the Run. Okonkwo regularly speaks to a wide variety of women's organizations and high school groups about the benefits of becoming a mentor, in hopes of helping young girls across the Valley reach their potential.
