/Worldwide Who's Who/ -- Georgia Kathrine Desjarlais, Independent Sales Representative and Advanced Unit Leader for Avon Products Inc., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in cosmetic sales and team management.
A retired Lieutenant Commander with the U.S. Navy, Ms. Desjarlais holds a total of 27 years' experience. In the past, she spent seven years as a cook and fed up to 2,000 people at each meal. During her 17 years as a Supply Corps Officer, she was given responsibilities ranging from ensuring accurate material stowage and disposal, and overseeing spare parts and the payroll for 2,500 sailors, to handling more than $1.3 million in inventory.
She grew up in a small town that made it difficult to pursue a college education. By joining the Navy, she was able to expand her horizons. After a short period at Corning, Incorporated after her Navy retirement, she began working with Avon, where she has now spent over nine years. In this role, she is able to work from home and on her own time without having to worry about how her almost thirty year battle with rheumatoid arthritis might affect her punctuality at work.
She is currently an Advanced Unit Leader who is responsible for supervising more than 100 representatives. In addition to her perseverance, her background in the Navy and expertise in logistics, have fueled her success. She has dedicated herself to this organization, and between 2009 and 2010, was honored with (among other awards) the coveted Spirit of Avon Award.
Ms. Desjarlais is also equipped with a Master of Public Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery. She serves on the Board of Directors for the South Tipton County Chamber of Commerce. She is a past president of the Memphis Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and a past treasurer for the Tennessee AAUW. In addition, she serves as Vice President of the Tipton County Veterans' Council, First Vice President (programs) of the Memphis Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Second Vice President (membership) of the Tennessee Council of Chapters of MOAA. Furthermore, she remains involved with the Navy Mustang Association and the Aleutian Islands Veterans Association.
