/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) hosted recently a meeting between its senior officials and the Acting President of Jordan's Ombudsman Bureau, Mr. Ala'edine Al-Armouti, aimed at explaining the bureau's main role in the administrative reform process. The meeting was attended by GAM's Deputy Mayor, Eng. 'Aamer Al-Bashir, and the Director of Amman City, Eng. 'Ammar Gharaybeh.
Al-Armouti stressed the importance of answering the complaints presented by citizens to the Bureau, since it is integral part of their rights. He said that the bureau's main objective is to create a constructive ethos among citizens and the public sector alike, to handle the complaints properly. He said that the Ombudsman Bureau aims at institutionalizing its working ethics on all levels.
As of GAM, Al-Armouti indicated that the Municipality is one of the main institutions in Jordan that directly deals with citizens. Hence, he noted that the bureau will perform as an honest broker between the public administration and citizens, to listen to their remarks, complaints and grievances by all the possible legal means.
He pointed out that most of the public administrations have expressed their readiness to deal positively with the Ombudsman Bureau, a move that should enhance the inevitability of a national independent institution to take care of the relationship between the citizen and the public sector.
On his part, Deputy Mayor of Amman, 'Aamer Al-Bashir praised the bureau's role on enhancing transparency, as well as providing consultation and proposals for the public sector to improve performance. Al-Bashir expressed GAM's commitment to cooperate with the bureau, by appointing liaison officers to coordinate the way of business between the two sides, on the pertinent issues.
Al-Armouti said that the bureau keens to provide the citizens with complaint forms. In this regard, the bureau has signed recently an agreement with the Jordan Post Company to make the complaint forms available for citizens through post offices. He said that the bureau will handle and follow-up on all complaints in cooperation with the concerned parties, before answering them as expediently as possible.
In conclusion, Al-Armouti answered questions raised by the participants, focusing on important topics including a brief on the Ombudsman Bureau, its authority, and its complaint forms that can be available free-of-charge at all post offices around the Kingdom.
