DEDHAM, MASSACHUSETTS, February 7, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/
-- Helen Gordon, P.E., BCEE, Senior Vice President of Civil Engineering and Water Resources at Woodard & Curran and a member of its' Board of Directors has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in environmental consulting.
Ms. Gordon is a talented businesswoman with a thorough understanding of the engineering and environmental consulting industry. She began her career as a staff engineer involved with infrastructure design and environmental services and subsequently served as a project manager. Her technical expertise includes the planning, design and construction management of water and wastewater engineering projects for municipalities.
With a wealth of knowledge and a sound insight into her industry, Ms. Gordon attributes her success to the unwavering support of her family, determination to succeed, having good mentors, and building and maintaining strong relationships. She became involved in her profession because she always had an interest in the environment and enjoyed building things with her brother's erector set and Lincoln Logs in the 50's. Engineering sounded like a career that would best meld her interests even though in the mid 70's it wasn't a common career for a woman. After she had the opportunity to establish a co-op, she earned a position consulting in the area of improving water and wastewater infrastructure, which appealed to her sense of contributing to the health of the environment and to improvement of communities. She subsequently progressed through the industry.
Ms. Gordon earned Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. She is also a Board Certified Environmental Engineer through the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and she holds a Certification in Infrastructure Asset Management from Indiana University as well as a Certificate from The Women's Leadership Forum at Harvard University. In addition to these accreditations, Ms. Gordon is a Professional Engineer. She is a member of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, New England Water Environment Association where she is currently the editor of the Technical Journal, the United Way Women's Initiative and the Water Environment Federation. She is also an inductee into Chi Epsilon. In the coming years, Ms. Gordon intends to continue working on the consulting end while becoming increasingly involved in leadership, running the business and strategic planning. She hopes to focus on the big picture, do more mentoring and hold more training programs.
