-- A 1995 graduate of the South Texas College of Law, firm partner Benny Agosto Jr. of the Houston-based law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend
will be delivering the commencement address this Saturday during the hooding ceremony for graduating law students.
A graduate of Houston Baptist University and South Texas College of Law, Mr. Agosto was taught the importance of a formal education by his father many years ago. A formal education is something that "No one can ever take away from you," advised Mr. Agosto's father. "Education opens doors to build the life that you choose as well as to impact and influence those around you."
"I'm blessed to be able to make a difference in today's world. I put everything I have into learning and challenging myself," noted the former member of the South Texas College of Law Alumni Association - Board of Directors and Board-certified Texas Trial Lawyer.
Making a difference in his community is a lifelong challenge that Mr. Agosto has embraced, head-on. In 2006, Benny Agosto, Jr.
established the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas (MABATx). The mission of the Foundation is to promote the educational advancement of the people of Texas. Each year, the Foundation awards several scholarships to Hispanic students attending Houston-area law schools.
In 2013, Mr. Agosto was the recipient of the Peter Torres Jr., Community Service Award and the Peter Perlman Service Award. Both awards recognized his commitment and contributions to the Houston, Texas business, professional and Hispanic communities.
Mr. Agosto was invited to attend the first Hispanic Business Leaders' Forum at the White House and was recently featured in Texas Monthly and Super Lawyers. Mr. Agosto served as National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) from 2011-2012 and is a Past President of the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas. Mr. Agosto has been selected for inclusion in the listing of Texas Super Lawyers for nine years and frequently speaks at schools, colleges, universities and to professional associations throughout Houston and the nation.
