Irene B. Donaldson Landis Enjoyed a 34-Year Career as a Nurse

GALESBURG, IL, August 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Irene B. Donaldson Landis has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of nursing education.

Now 94 years of age, Ms. Landis enjoyed a fruitful 34-year career in healthcare. She retired in 1977 and was recognized as an expert in healthcare administration and organization. Previously, she lent her talents to St. Mary's Hospital as director of in-service education, to Carl Sandburg College as a teacher, and to Galesburg Cottage Hospital as a clinical supervisor and director of its school of nursing. Additionally, Ms. Landis developed continuing education programs for nurses and did volunteer work for Knox College, her alma mater. Recognized by Delta Delta Delta in 1992, she attributes her longevity to her love for nursing, compassion for patients, and commitment to keeping her knowledge current by attending night classes.

Ms. Landis received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Knox College. She previously served as president of the Western Illinois Chapter of the National League for Nursing, as chairwoman of the Educators Section of the American Nurses Association, and as president of Delta Delta Delta. Honors of which she is a recipient include a Scroll of Honor for Service Beyond Self from the Fifty Year Club of Knox College and a Service Award for Outstanding Service from Knox College. She gives generously to St. Mary's Hospital, the Knox College Alumni Association, the Association of Yale Alumni, and the Yale Club of Chicago. Qualified to direct duplicate bridge, Ms. Landis looks forward to enjoying her retirement by playing bridge and continuing to stay active in her sorority.
