/Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Janet Orth Richards, retired Chemistry Teacher from Minisink Valley High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in high school chemistry instruction.
Prior to her retirement, Janet Orth Richards accrued 34 years of professional experience in the education field. During her tenure with Minisink Valley High School, she was responsible for preparing question papers for the New York State Chemistry Regents Exams, overseeing the science department, assisting with the development of science curriculum for students in kindergarten through 12th grade and teaching chemistry. Sponsor of the Lawrence and Janet Richards scholarship at Minisink Valley High School, Mrs. Richards also helped edit the 50-year celebration book chronicling the history of Minisink Valley Central School.
Never one to rest on her laurels, Mrs. Richards is actively involved with her church. She serves as treasurer of the Skylands District United Methodist Women of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. Moreover, she is outreach chairwoman and women's group treasurer for Drew United Methodist Church, Port Jervis, NY and sits on the board of directors of Evangeline Emmanuel Ministries International.
Driven by a love for working with people, Mrs. Richards retains fond memories of her career as a teacher. She enjoys staying in touch with her former students, and considers hard work and dedication to be the driving forces behind her success. Mrs. Richards is particularly supportive of new teachers entering the field. She encourages educators to be honest with their students and apply themselves accordingly so as to provide pupils with the highest quality education. Says Mrs. Richards, "You can find something good in everyone. Look for it, find it and build on it."
Mrs. Richards holds a master of science in mathematics from SUNY New Paltz, a master of education in science, with a concentration in chemistry from East Stroudsburg University and a bachelor of science in physical science, with a minor in mathematics, from East Stroudsburg University. A certified principal, she received a number of distinctions for her efforts in academics. She was selected for inclusion in Outstanding Young Women of America by East Stroudsburg University and was listed among the Top 12 Educators in America. Cambridge Publishing is honored to recognize her as a leader in education and named her Professional of the Year in High School Chemistry Instruction for the 2008-2009 year. Mrs. Richards dedicates her most recent Who's Who distinctions to her late husband, Lawrence, for his unwavering support and the motivation he inspired within her to pursue both her personal and vocational goals.
