Meet Jay Lyman Bishop, Ph.D.
BOUNTIFUL, UT, January 11, 2013 /Worldwide Who's Who/
-- Jay Lyman Bishop, Ph.D., Retired Scientist for Western Consultants and Bishop Mfg. Co., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in scientific research and development.
As a child, Dr. Jay Lyman Bishop found science and mathematics to be of most interest to him, leading him to pursue a career in the sciences. He has since earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, with a minor in physics, from The University of Utah. He went on to graduate from this same institution with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and Mathematics.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Bishop served as a U.S. Army chemical engineer and spent 20 years at the Tooele Army Depot, assisting the military in meeting the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency. He also succeeded in helping to bring all U.S. military bases into EPA compliance for hazardous waste, and clean air and water. After serving in the military, he went on to work as a scientist with Western Consultants and Bishop Mfg. Co., a post from which he is now retired.
With 63 years in the field of science, Dr. Bishop is an expert in interpreting different languages and holds several patents for chemical inventions. He has created innovative chemical cures for human and animal illnesses. He has also written computer programs for many scientific processes, and accumulated a multitude of professional achievements. Although retired, he maintains affiliation with the American Men and Women of Science, Utah Professional Genealogists, and several Who's Who societies.
Dr. Bishop is currently working with his friend, Tom Rodgers, to reach out to the governor of Utah, Jon M. Huntsman Jr., to demand that building safety inspectors stop giving permits to HUD homes until they are made safe. This is an issue that both Dr. Bishop and Mr. Rodgers have been lobbying for over several years. According to Mr. Rodgers, "The problem is that HUD-manufactured homes — the millions of low-cost factory-built homes that fall under federal regulations — typically come equipped with furnace exhaust vents on the roof that are placed too close to the powered air-intake pipe." Although they have no hard evidence to prove that anyone has been killed or injured as a result of the HUD venting design, they are trying to alert the media in order to protect individuals in these types of homes from possible carbon monoxide poisoning. "I'm just trying to save lives," Dr. Bishop says.
