/Worldwide Who's Who/ -- Jean Hamm-Evans, Owner of Millgrove Campground, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in recreational and outdoor experiences.
Ms. Evans, better known as Jean, purchased Millgrove Campground 10 years ago with an existing 77 campsites. She has since expanded with 50 more sites and an extra bath house. Her campground is somewhat unique in that her sites are all permanent and even though the camping season is from April 1 until October 31 the campers are allowed to come at any time during the winter months. Several like to ice fish. Her campground has two lakes and two ponds offering exciting fishing from boats with trolling motors or from the banks. There are monthly adult fishing contests with a point system and a grand winner at the end of the season.
Ms. Evans offers a variety of activities to keep campers entertained, including a hog roast in the spring, fireworks, boating, a fishing rodeo for the children and her annual year-end bean dinner. Ms. Evans has also encouraged her campers to organize activities. She commented that they had organized and done an outstanding job. Some of the things they have come up with consist of Bingo (each one has a theme and you have the opportunity to be creative and dress according to the theme), a Halloween party for everyone with hayrides, haunted mazes and trick or treating. Their poker runs have also been a big hit. Ms. Evans gives all the credit to the campers for making it an entertaining and fun place to be. She says she could not possibly do it on her own and attributes the campground's success to it being more like family.
As the manager and owner of the campground, Jean is responsible for the management of the campground, planning events, handling finances, and dealing with county and state regulations; but her most favorite is visiting with the campers in her tiny little office. She recently added a large deck so that several people could gather at the same time.
Ms. Evans' background consists of receiving her BS from Indiana University and an MAT in teaching from DePauw University. She taught elementary education for 10 years in the South Putnam School Corporation. She left the classroom to assist her husband with an auto parts store and machine shop. From there, she became a co-founder of DIXIE CHOPPER lawn mowers and was the general manager of that corporation. After leaving that position, she discovered Millgrove Campground and decided to invest in an exciting and worthwhile new endeavor. Ms. Evans attributes her success to her determination and hard work. Looking toward the future, she hopes to make Millgrove Campground the best campground in the area and make it as successful as possible. Evidently it's working as she has a waiting list of people wanting sites.
