YONKERS, NY, October 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joan A. Laredo-Liddell, Educator, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of chemistry instruction.
At the time of interview, Joan Laredo-Liddell was excitedly preparing to travel to Albany for a board meeting held by the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS). Though she retired some time ago, Ms. Laredo-Liddell is still highly involved in science education at all levels, always working to provide opportunities for all students to learn and participate in science-related activities. After teaching high school chemistry for the majority of her 51-year career and then instructing at Marymount College of Fordham University for seven years, this spirited educator was not ready to take her leave just yet.
She also coordinates National Chemistry Week for the New York Section of the American Chemical Society as part of the effort to promote chemistry in a fun, but educational manner. On the national level, she is a member of SOCED (Society of Chemical Education) and a Councilor for the New York Section. Ms. Laredo-Liddell, who has always enjoyed interacting with students, remarks that one of the most gratifying aspects of her career is witnessing their successes later on in life.
Ms. Laredo-Liddell received a bachelor of arts in chemistry and physics and a master of arts in chemistry/education from CUNY Hunter College, as well as a certification in supervision and administration from the same institution. The 2007 chair of the New York Section of the American Chemical Society, she also holds memberships in the Science Teachers Association of New York State (1988 Fellow and 1990 President), the American Association of Physics Teachers, the National Association of Biology Teachers, the National Science Teachers Association and Phi Delta Kappa. Ms. Laredo-Liddell was chosen to be featured in "Cambridge Publishing's Top 101 Industry Experts," a publication that highlights the works and accomplishments of a select few from each field of practice.
"To a mind of flint, the teacher must be iron, and strike sparks. To the empty pitcher, the teacher becomes a well. To the fallow mind, a planter of seeds. To the cluttered mind, a gardener to weed, shape, and clear a space for growing."
