HIGH POINT, NC, June 5, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Joanne D. Altman, Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Works at High Point University, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in academia.

In August 2011, Dr. Altman assumed a position as director of undergraduate research and creative works at High Point University. Responsible for building research campus-wide, she works collaboratively with faculty, often serving as a mentor. Dr. Altman also aids professors and research associates by training and providing resources which facilitate more efficient student-faculty relationships. Her other duties include helping students find research opportunities and prepare for professional presentations, producing an undergraduate journal of scholarly and creative work, and hosting conferences. Drawing on her educational background, which includes a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Franklin and Marshall College, a Master of Arts in psychology from Temple University, a Doctorate in psychology from Temple University, and a Post Doctorate degree from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Altman has become an expert in teaching, education, and research. She has been quoted as saying, "I truly think one of the best parts of a student's education comes from their individual pursuit of scholarship in their field that goes beyond the classroom. It's important that we mentor students through the process to ensure it is a positive and successful experience."

Recognized for years of invaluable contribution to higher education, Dr. Altman has garnered several awards. She is the recipient of the Herrick Award for Outstanding Service, the Ned N. Flemming Excellence in Teaching award, and the A. Roy Meyers award for excellence in research- all from Washburn University. In 2013, she was also inducted into Worldwide Who's Who as an executive member. With 25 years of experience, Dr. Altman feels her success can be most aptly attributed to an unwavering passion for her profession. In the coming years, she aspires to develop a strong signature program at the heart of the university to further influence, guide, and develop student-faculty relationships.

Dr. Altman is a published author, whose research has been published in journals and various periodicals. Understanding the importance of networking and collaborative research, she is professionally affiliated with The Council of Undergraduate Research, Animal Behavior Society, and Association of Psychological Science, American Zoological Association. Dr. Altman is an avid supporter of Orangutan Conservancy and other wildlife conservation efforts.
