The new products will head into production in early 2014, and will soon supplement the cafeteria offerings in many of the 7,000 nationwide school districts that JTM serves.---
The blending of mushrooms with meat provides schools with an innovative menu solution that expands portion sizes without adding calories, as well as increasing students' vegetable servings. Mushrooms provide even more moisture to JTM's fully-cooked beef, while incorporating nutrients like Vitamin D, potassium, and antioxidants. Mushrooms also bring flavor to vegetarian meal options, including JTM's Pasta Primavera with Mushrooms, and a whole grain rich pasta in creamy alfredo sauce with carrots, peas and mushrooms.
"By incorporating mushrooms, schools are able to give students a larger, juicier burger patty," said Brian Hofmeier, JTM's Vice President of Education Sales. "The entire Beef with Mushroom line is gluten-free, and mushrooms make Pasta Primavera a hearty vegetarian meal, which help schools provide safe, tasty options for students with alternative diets."
In addition to increasing menu versatility, IQF Diced Mushrooms are also available as a USDA Food to the National School Lunch Program and help schools to fulfill more vegetable credits in their student lunches. JTM is able to work with schools to use USDA mushrooms for significant savings.
